Bridge to Terebithia

Panel Review

The Daily Mirror gave this DVD five stars. “The best family film you’ll see all year”, they said, while the Daily Star gave it 10 out of 10 – “charming, magical and moving”. Our Panel agreed. “This a brilliant story for anyone having a tough time”, they said. “It shows how people do become friends who you would never think could be”.

The story is about two 13-14 year-old children – one boy (Jesse) and one girl (Leslie) – who don’t quite fit in at school. The boy is getting bullied and the girl is new. They become friends and create an imaginary world to escape to, reaching it by swinging across a stream on an old rope. There they have adventures, some magical and some involving the school bullies, a mixture of fantasy and action with fantastic graphics.

The Panel did note one problem with the storyline. “If you’re into happy endings, it’s not for you. In saying that, we would still buy it, but you need loads of tissues at the ready”. Be warned.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Katherine Paterson. The DVD is distributed by Icon Home Entertainment with an RRP of £19.99.
